According to old Greek tradition, a man and a woman can have the same last name, however with different suffixes. A man can be named -dis and a woman – -dou.
In this way a man and a woman can belong to one another, yet they each get to keep their own specific identity. Understanding and solidarity exists between them, a form of quiet, hidden communication and knowledge that neither owns the other.
